The last couple weeks we focused on the letters L and M, read more bible stories about King David the leader and the miracles of Jesus, and some other winter themed activities from Little Saints. We also spent some time observing the hydroponic garden and the daily growth of the newly sprouted plants. Unfortunately, we did not get to do as much as I had planned due to the kids getting sick…again.
Week one began with a trip to the local county park which is always a treat for the kids.
After that fun start to the week, we began the letter L activities. Isa loves stickers so her first activity involving the letter L and related stickers was a treat.
Then we glued pieces of straws into the shape of L’s on her lowercase letter L. After this activity I’m not sure what she enjoys more, big straws or little pieces of straws. One thing’s for sure though, little pieces of straw are harder to clean up!
Our next activity, from Little Saints, involved building a (paper) snowman whom she calls Olaf.
One of our outdoor activities involved filling the bird feeders with seeds. Mr X was a little too “helpful” and even managed to eat some bird seed himself…perhaps he was taste testing for the birds.
Week two began with a really nice hike on a local trail, a nice treat for the whole family.
Dad got the kids got a neat little remote controlled indoor helicopter. The helicopter was a huge hit with both of them.
For the letter M, Isa got to glue marshmallows and macaroni to the upper and lower case letters.
Another of our letter M activities revolved around Miracles. For this, we did an activity from Teach Me About God where we read a story of how Jesus miraculously healed a man of leprosy. Then we applied “sores” all over Isa’s arms and face to illustrate having the disease. Afterward we washed the “sores” right off the same way as the man whom Jesus had healed. We also read a number of other stories of the miracles of Jesus afterward.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks and we didn’t get anywhere near as much accomplished as I had hoped but we’ll save those other activities for next year. Throughout this time we’ve been watching our plants on the AquaFarm grow and they’ve really taken off!
Here are just a few photos of the growth from last week. Although I have not taken any new photos this week, they have continued to grow.
