Now that the holidays are over

…we’re getting back into the swing of things. Our first week back in preschool went well. We focused on the letter K, Christ our King whose birth we just celebrated, and the story of King David.

We started out with coloring her K is for King page.

She got to wear lipstick for her second letter K activity which involved putting lip prints or “kisses” onto the letter K.

Pretty in pink

Applying kisses to the letter K.

Isa also glued little kites with string tails onto the lowercase letter k.

Below are her three completed letter K activities.

Her other big project was all about aquaponics! This is a combination of hydroponics and aquatics so she is growing an herb garden as well as caring for a fish. Yes, folks she’s now got her first fish and she’s very excited about it! We got her an AquaFarm kit from Back to the Roots for this endeavor.

Isa helped with the unboxing while mom took over setting up and filling the tank. Isa’s other task involved going to the store and picking out a fish for her new aquarium. She could not decide between a red betta or a blue betta so mom helped her find a betta who was both red AND blue. That was the one! She was so excited about her fish she wouldn’t let it go.

She found the fish she wanted!

And carried it all the way to the car.

Back at the house, we released her new betta fish into his new home. He perked up instantly and was very active which thrilled the kids.

Almost there...

Finally the fish is in his new home! (can you see him? hint - bottom center)
Isa's new betta fish (still nameless at the moment)

Next we had to prepare the hydroponic garden on top of the tank. Isa was able to do most of the work for this herself.

Rinsing the growstones

Placing the baskets in the lid.

Almost done, just missing the seeds.

Then we soaked the seeds overnight and Isa dispersed them into the baskets this morning. Now all we need to do is wait for the seeds to sprout and grow…a lesson for another day!

Placing the soaked seeds into their baskets.

Finished!

And, in closing, a couple of candids!

In their pj's looking at something outside Mima/Papi's house.

Poor Mr X, his sister decided to put stickers on him!
