Week five’s emphasis was on the gospel story of Jacob, son of Isaac and Rebekah (still in Genesis), St Patrick, and the letter D.
Monday was St Patrick's Day, so we took a little detour from the schedule to focus on the St Patrick's Day lesson in Little Saints. We read about St Patrick in the book recommended in the Little Saints curriculum, Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie dePaola. This was a great children's picture book that teaches about the life of St Patrick in an easy to understand, fun format for kids. However right now she’s more interested in the pictures and showing off how much she knows by pointing out and naming all the items in the pictures than the story itself. It’s a valuable learning experience nonetheless.
In line with the way St Patrick used the clover to help illustrate the Holy Trinity, our first Little Saints project did exactly that.
Gluing 'God the Son' onto her clover
Showing off her clover w/ representations of 1 God in 3 persons.
Our other project for the day, also a Little Saints activity, involved making a pin out of clovers and a golden harp for her to wear for the day.
Gluing the clovers
Playing with her finished project
We started Tuesday off with a modified Learn and Grow activity. This activity involved gluing glitter dots onto the letter D.
Gluing dots
Next we did a Little Hands to Heaven activity that went along with one of the bible stories of Jacob and his older brother, Esau. This activity involved her coloring over her written name in order to hide her true identity. Just as Jacob had done when he pretended to be his brother Esau so that he would receive Esau’s blessing from their father Isaac. (Genesis 27:15-24)
Coloring over her name
Our last activity for that day was another Learn and Grow project involving making an ‘aquarium’. For those that know me very well you can appreciate how much I particularly enjoyed this activity.
Gluing bubbles into her aquarium
Once again, she fell asleep in her chair before we could finish the very last step of gluing the cling wrap over the “bowl”. Mom finished that last step for her while she napped and that wrapped up preschool day 2 for the week.
Tuesday's completed projects
Wednesday we did a series of animal projects, all of which were inspired by the Learn and Grow curriculum.
The first project of the day involved making a dog out of oval shapes.
Gluing the legs onto her 'dog'
Next up was a project that involved putting the missing animal parts onto the animals.
Coloring the fish and dog
Gluing wiggly eyes onto her fish
Our final project for the day involved making an animal out of a stuffed paper lunch bag. Considering that Easter is upon us, I chose to help her make a rabbit.
Stuffing the paper lunch bag to form the rabbit's body.
Gluing wiggly eyes onto the rabbit's head.
Gluing cotton onto the body for 'fur'.
Holding her completed rabbit

Unfortunately our school week was cut short. I had activities planned out for all 5 days this week but then life happened. Thursday’s activities got thrown out when we had to make an unscheduled visit to the construction site of the new house to make some last minute but necessary adjustments. When we weren’t at the new house that day, Dad was working from home and Isa was just too excited about Dad’s presence to focus on her projects for the day.
And since Friday (today) is Isabella’s birthday, I decided to scrap school for the day and let her just have fun. After all, who wants to do school on their birthday? Happy 2nd birthday to my beautiful baby girl! We’ll celebrate with presents and cake this evening when dad gets home from work.
