Another step closer

The day has arrived that I have received all three preschool curricula that I have ordered.

Left to Right: Little Hands to Heaven; Little Saints; Learn and Grow

At first glance, everything looks great.  I flipped through all 3 curricula and am quite pleased.  I have already flipped through the first few weeks of each and made a list of necessary supplies to acquire before beginning that I don’t already have on hand.  Since my oldest is almost 2 years old, that list of supplies is a little longer than it would be for someone who already has older kids and such staples as Elmer’s glue, markers, paint, etc.  Some of the activities and crafts I browsed through brought on a wave of nostalgia and I look forward to doing them with my little ones.

A quick, but closer, look at each curriculum…

Heart of Dakota’s Little Hands to Heaven 2-3 yr preschool program.

I got this from Heart of Dakota. The package comes with the Little Hands to Heaven Teachers Guide, A Child's First Bible by Kenneth Taylor, Big Thoughts for Little People by Kenneth Taylor, and the Singing Bible on cd.  The Teachers Guide is a well, written and extremely easy to follow guide with daily lesson plans.  The Teachers Guide also contains an appendix in the back of the book with pages to copy and use in the lessons.  “A Child’s First Bible” is a neat, little book with bible stories written simply for young children.  The “Big Thoughts for Little People” is a real gem that teaches the alphabet with a Christian theme and incorporates nice lessons to go with each letter.  I absolutely love the “Big Thoughts for Little People” book included in the package, it is a real winner.  The Singing Bible on cd is nice, I’m sure my little ones will eventually enjoy it.  However the songs do sound kind of dated as far as sound quality/recording.

Little Saints: A Catholic Preschool Program with Classical Disciplines

This curriculum comes from Emmanuel Books, a gracious gift from my wonderful mother, and the package comes with the Parent Guide and Pattern Packet.  The Parent Guide contains easy to follow daily lesson plans, book lists, book suggestions, material lists, and more.  Just from browsing the book I can tell there are a few extra titles I will want to use regularly with this curriculum.  The Pattern Packet contains material you can copy and use for the lesson plans and project preparation.  This program is suggested for 3-5 year olds, but I think we can start a little earlier.

Learn and Grow: Hands-On Lessons for Active Preschoolers

I got this one from Amazon and it comes to you as just the one book, the Parent Guide.  Inside this book you will find a link and password to register your book and gain access to the Appendix.  The Appendix can be downloaded and printed to be used with their corresponding lessons provided in the Parent Guide.  After just a quick flip through the Learn and Grow curriculum it is easy to see this is a very hands on program and great for those with very active youngsters…like my oldest daughter.  This program is suggested for 2-4 year olds.

All in all, I am very pleased and more eager than ever to get the remaining supplies I need and then get started!
