Move & Updates

Well it’s been a few weeks since my last update and to say we’ve been BUSY is an understatement! The last few weeks have been crazy, starting with the day before closing. And boy oh boy was that a whirlwind of craziness that I do not want repeated again…EVER! But that’s a story for another time and one that I am just starting to be able to (sort of) find humor in. Let’s just say the closing on this home is one we will never forget and the day before closing is one of infamy in our minds.

Nevertheless, we did close on the day we were supposed to and the move went on as planned. Someone above must be looking out for us! We had a ton of help from my amazing in-laws who helped us pack, load & unload the moving truck, babysat, brought food and helped us clean out the rental after the movers left. I am eternally grateful for all the help we had.

To add to the insanity of moving over a holiday weekend with a toddler and a baby, we also had shutters being installed, a fence being installed, and the professional movers all working at the house on the same day. Absolute insanity, but we survived with no casualties! At least we had privacy by the time the house was loaded with furniture and a fence up to keep Isa and the dog from running wild around the neighborhood. So despite how “crazy” my husband thought I was for having everything scheduled to happen all at once, the fence install proved extremely valuable.

We hired the same company, Town and Country Fences LLC, to install our new fence as we did at our previous house. They did an awesome job and, as before, I am thrilled with our new fence.

The unpacking of boxes is coming along, slowly but surely. Being home by myself with the 2 kids makes it rather difficult to get much unpacking done. Getting them to take naps simultaneously is next to impossible, so it’s slow going but I do what I can and don’t sweat the small stuff. The progress each day is not great but it adds up and more space is opening up and things are beginning to find their places. Finding things is still rather difficult though. 3 weeks later I still heavily rely on the sticky notes I placed on my kitchen cabinets to know what’s behind each door.

The kids are doing great. Isa loves running around in her new backyard, playing in the sprinkler or chasing the dog. We finally got an opportunity to take the kids to the community pool for the first time. Isa is still a bit unsure of pools. After a little bit of wading and getting splashed by the buckets of water that come pouring down in the shallow kid pools, she decided she’d had enough and preferred the safer, more familiar fun of the swings at the neighboring community playground. Mr X, on the other hand, was a much better trooper in the pool despite the somewhat cool-ish water. (Note, not at all cool by northerner standards. But cool for southerners who are accustomed to the pool feeling more like bath water.)

Mr X was also officially introduced to “solids” now that he's 7 months old. He had his first taste of rice cereal this last weekend and he’s transitioning rather well to it. Isa is also very enthusiastic about helping feed her baby brother.

He even feeds himself!

We’ve also started getting the parts out to begin construction of the kids’ new backyard playset, compliments of their parents and grandparents combined. This project is going to take a little while but we hope to chip away at it one step at a time for now. So far we’ve only got one box (out of 5) emptied…this is going to be “fun”.

Even amidst the chaos, I remind myself to stop and enjoy this new place we call home. As I look around outside, I take delight in the plants we have in the yard. The crape myrtles are now in bloom, as are the roses, pink oleander and purple butterfly bushes. I have 7 of the same medium pink Encore azaleas that I loved so much at our last house planted in the backyard of this new one. They are not in bloom yet but it will be a spectacular sight when they are. I am hoping to see a beautiful fall bloom from the azaleas. I have already started scheming up some potential gardening plans, but those will have to remain in the planning stage until next season most likely. I cannot wait to start planting and getting more color in the yard!

White crape myrtle

Dwarf oleander, knockout roses, butterfly bush

Viburnum and my planter full of elephant ears

And before I forget, I thought I’d include a couple pictures from an evening trip to the beach a few weeks ago.

Until next time, I bid you all adieu!
